Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will deal with the fallout of Earth’s heroes intermingling with their respective timelines and the multiverse at large. Throughout many of Marvel’s live-action and animated projects, vigilantes have saved the day by changing what really happened. This can have dangerous consequences as Stephen Strange will soon learn.

Any time a character has involved themselves in the balance of reality, they may have directly weakened the barriers between worlds. With Doctor Strange investigating these events and the possibility of the TVA or the Illuminati trying to bring order to the chaos, many of these plot points may become relevant again in the next release.

VIDEO OF THE DAY

X-Men in X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014)

The plot of X-Men: Days of Future Past involves the team from the future trying to avert a series of events that will lead to a post-apocalyptic tragedy. With the entire timeline in play, Charles Xavier sends Logan back to his past body in an attempt to stop the Sentinel uprising.

It’s a tense mission with huge stakes, but the consequences are even greater than Professor X could have envisioned. With a Variant of Xavier present in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, it’s possible that the removal of this future timeline had major repercussions for the rest of the multiverse.

Deadpool in Deadpool 2 (2018)

Cable came from an alternate version of the future, aiming to kill the man who murdered his family before he could become the supervillain he was meant to be. While Summers may have avoided this future timeline without killing Firefist, that didn’t stop Deadpool from destroying the timeline beyond repair.

As the credits roll deadpool 2, it’s revealed in a series of iconic scenes that he used the time travel device to circumvent realities and alter his own history, saving Vanessa, shooting Ryan Reynolds before he could ever sign The Green Lanternand even have sound X-Men Origins: Wolverine Variant. Needless to say, the TVA will likely be looking for Wade Wilson.

The Avengers in Avengers: Endgame (2019)

The white costumes of the Avengers in Endgame

Thanos had to be stopped after wiping out half the universe. To do this, the Avengers would need the Infinity Stones, scattered throughout history. So Tony Stark invented a method of time travel, which saw them jump across the Marvel Cinematic Universe, collecting these almighty items.

Avengers: Endgame really introduced the idea that the timeline was vitally important to the future of these heroes. The damage these choices did to the larger multiverse was seemingly halted because it was all part of a bigger plan. However, Loki’s escape and its impact led to a cascading series of events.

Scarlet Witch in WandaVision (2020)

Wanda levitates in a magic circle in Dr. Strange 2.

Wanda’s powers only grow stronger, but in her grief she tapped into a set of abilities she didn’t even know she possessed. Reality is a dangerous thing to handle, but as the Scarlet Witch appeared, the lines between existence began to blur.

Not only did Wanda change the reality around her, but she potentially managed to channel a variant of Pietro into the MCU from a different universe. It is clear that Strange is aware of the events of Wanda Vision, that’s why the character was drawn into Multiverse of Madness.

David Haller in the Legion (2017-2019)

David in a hovering plane in Legion.

David Haller is one of the most unpredictable mutants out there. The Shadow King has fed on his spirit for years, but the Omega-level threat has learned from the darkness within. Its tragic timeline needed to be rewritten and so the finale of Legion saw Haller completely reboot his universe.

A change in the timeline is a problematic thing because it can have a bigger impact on the multiverse. Haller wants to play his life very differently, which the TVA might have a problem with. A cameo from Legion itself might be possible in doctor strange 2, given its ability to shape time, alongside its ally Switch.

Sylvie to Loki (2021)

Loki and Sylvie in Loki Disney+

Of all the MCU projects so far, the Disney+ series Loki opened up the possibilities of the multiverse the most. The Time Variance Authority was introduced, alongside the idea that there were variants of every character scattered across millions of worlds.

Although Loki has already breached his timeline thanks to the events of Avengers: Endgame, it would be the variant known as Sylvie that was expected to deal the most damage. Killing the One That Remains and allowing the multiverse to open up more will surely impact the narrative of Multiverse of Madness.

Doctor Strange in Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)

Doctor Strange casting a spell in No Way Home.

Doctor Strange made his own mistakes when it came to the Multiverse. Trying to erase the memory of Peter Parker from the world in Spider-Man: No Coming Home he spoils the spell, allowing those connected to the web head to arrive from the multiverse.

He may have put an end to this particular disaster, but it looks like the problems are just beginning. Knowing now that there is magic that can tear reality itself apart, it’s unclear how Strange will attempt to combat this impending disaster and where he might end up in the multiverse.

Venom In Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021)

Venom in Venom Let There Be Carnage

Venom: let there be carnage boasted an after-credits sequence that intrigued fans as to where the character would go next. With the Symbiote tapping into the Hive Mind for the first time, the multiverse of other Symbiotes was opened up for him to communicate with.

This is what brought Eddie Brock and Venom into the MCU universe for No coming home (and now the duo have a deeper connection to the multiverse at large). It may not have an impact doctor strange 2, but the Symbiotes have now changed the main MCU timeline forever, arriving in an ominous way.

The observer in What if…? (2021)

What if Watcher Protector Multiverse

It’s been made abundantly clear to fans of comics and TV shows that The Watchers can’t interfere with anything that happens in the multiverse. Still, that didn’t stop Uatu, who eventually put together a team to try and fight Ultron and his nefarious legions.

Although an argument can be made that The Watcher was not directly involved in What if…?, without his guidance, the Guardians of the Multiverse would never have been formed. There may be consequences for Uatu from the other Watchers, or he may once again break tradition and aid the Master of Mystical Arts.

SHIELD in Agents of SHIELD (2013-2020)

Agents of SHIELD began posting time travel tales quite early in the show. As this began to progress, it was clear that whether the team was thrown into the distant future with the Kree or thrown into the early days of the organization, they couldn’t stop the timeline from changing. .

It’s unclear how many realities the team helped create or destroy, let alone form the Framework. They became experts in what it was like to time travel, but their actions could have been deemed destructive by the Illuminati.
